For the creation of our own video, we first analysed three others, and then decided upon our genre, which was love/romance. The next stage was for us to decide which type of video we would do, for example, a pastiche, spoof, a direct intertexual reference to another video, or something completely unrelated to the song we chose.
We first looked at a variety of videos, the first being Enrique's 'Hero', which I analysed as one of my textual analysis examples. We had the idea from this that we would keep the technical aspects used in the original video, but use two male actors and have one play the female role to make a comic spoof of the video. However, after considering this, we then went against this idea, as we thought that the video would look too tacky and would not give enough comic value as we wanted.
We then looked at doing a stop-start animation video, and I had the idea of looking at a video I recalled seeing in the past, called 'Breathe Me' by Sia. This used the stereotypical shots such as close ups and medium shots for emotions, and point of view shots of things that were precious to the singer, who featured in the video, for example the photographs that she is holding throughout. However, within these scenes of her holding photographs, which is the main ideology of the video, about her reliving past memories, there is also stop start animation of her within the photographs, showing the actual memories being physically replayed as she looks at them through photographic form. The idea behind this attracted us initially, as we thought that we could use human characters within the video we chose and find a way to use stop start animation within it. However, after consideration about this, we decided not to use it, as we did not have the knowledge of how to use the camera in a successful way to produce a working animation, and would be too time consuming to produce.

Our other idea was to do a completely unrelated video to a song, and use our actors to do something in the public eye, completely unrehearsed to anyone but the actors, to get a reaction from them, and the audience, to make a funny and popular video. For this, we had the idea of using a popular song everybody knew, which could be funny and iconic as it would be recognised by a wide audience. The song we chose was 'Everybody needs somebody' by the Blues Brothers, and our idea was to have our actors in town, and for them to be sat blending in with a crowd, before breaking into a dancing mime routine of the song, also dressed as the Blues Brothers for iconic value. However, we also decided to go against this idea, as we thought that we would not be able to get a wide enough audience reaction, and that our actors would have to learn the dance routine, which would also be time consuming as we had a deadline for the production of the video. We also did not want the video to look overdone, as many people before have done versions similar.

Another idea we had, was to do a spoof of Rihanna's 'Disturbia' filmed at a hallowe'en party of people dressed up dancing with a main character miming as different shots take place. However, we decided to go against this idea, as we thought people may be drunk and uncapable of acting in a serious manner while we were filming our video.
Our final idea which we chose was for the video 'Make you feel my love' by Adele. We had chosen this, because we wanted a stereotypical love song, as we had analysed in our video examples, and thought that it would be easier to do as we had researched it, than using overcomplicated ideas which we may not have the time to do.
We decided that we would use two actors, male and female, and have the setting in places similar to in the original video, such as in the female's room at the start, which is also done in the video. We also decided to have the action before the music where she is texting the male to meet up, as we thought it would open the narrative clearer than her going straight into singing about him, as she is the most central character. The ideology is of love lost, as in my example analysis for the video of 'Breakeven' by The Script, meaning I already had an idea of what aspects I could include in our own production. Now that we knew what our idea would be, we decided to begin brainstorming on what the basic narrative would be, the surroundings we would include, and what would happen at the end.
Here is our initial mindmap of ideas on this topic.
