Chosen ideas for video.

The next stage was that we narrowed down our choices from the mindmap of what we would use in our video. We decided to choose two central characters being male and female to act in the video, as we wanted to portray a stereotypical storyline of love lost in a relationship, and the female character singing about this and how she wants to get back together with her partner. The plot would be a mixture of the past and present, beginning with her texting in the present in her room asking to meet her ex at their first meeting place, followed by a series of flashbacks of what happened between them in their relationship throughout the video to explain the narrative visually aswell as through lyrics as she remenisces. The audience is then occasionally brought back to the present, showing the female's journey through different streets and locations as she tells the story through the lyrics to meet her partner. We devised the ending to be them meeting at their original meeting place, shown in a flashback at the start, with the female expressing her feelings to the male, almost giving a feeling that she is apologising for events that had passed, and explaining how she can make him happy and wants to be with him in the future.
The locations that we chose was the female's bedroom for the start of the video, as this is also a starting location in the original, intertexually referring to this to make it iconic to an audience that has already seen the original video. We also chose a 'good' and 'bad' street for the female to walk down as she explains the narrative through song, as these contrasting streets relate to the lyrics, the good street referring to the third stanza 'I know you haven't made your mind up yet, but I would never do you wrong...' as nothing much happens dramatically in this scene, so we wanted to use it to emphasize the romantic genre style of the video, and have a stereotypical street with bright, warm lights surrounding the female, as used in films such as 'Love Actually', a stereotypical feel-good film set at Christmas time, the genre again being romance. Becuase of this setting, we then decided to use a contrasting street to express a different emotion from the female character to give a variety to the video, and also to relate to the lyrics in the fourth stanza 'I'd go crawling down the avenue'. We wanted to make this area very dull and dangerous looking if possible, to show the lengths she would go to by being in this isolated environment, just to be with the one that she loved.

We chose to have a first meeting place for the couple to establish through flashback their first moments together to emphasise the romantic aspects again, and to link the flashbacks in the past with scenes of them in the present, as we used this same location for where they meet at the end, again for a romantic undertone which the audience would recognise.
The final location we chose was a house that they may have shared in the past, shown again through flashback, of where they have an argument which forces the male to leave this space, leaving the female looking very confused and upset. We chose this, because we wanted a personal, romantic environment to link with the genre for the video, and to build a safe foundation in which the couple are having a conversation, before contrasting with the environment to having a very high impact argument, using bold jestures and facial expressions to show their emotions.

Here is our final draft of ideas for the video.

We now needed to discuss where specifically our chosen locations would be filmed, considering the area we were located in, the time we had to film, and the advantages/disadvantages of filming in certain places.
