Mindmap of locations

Here is a mindmap of possible locations for our video scenes.

The first place we look at for filming was the opening scene in the female's bedroom. For this, we thought that either mine or Taslima's room would be appropriate, as mine was small but convenient, as we were referring to the original video, so decided we would only focus on one half of the room to show the bed, the phone she is texting on as in the original video, and any other action that would take place. However, taslima's room would be bigger for filming different angles and shots. We decided to practice in my room to do the opening scene, as Taz captured the first selection of storyboard images to see what the outcome looked like, and weather it worked out using this location.

Our next location to think about was the meeting place of the couple. We wanted to build a romantic, positive surrounding for the scene, as we wanted it to come accross as magical to the audience, giving them a warm, stereotypical 'feel-good' feeling to watch this moment they share, again relating to the film 'Love Actually'. We came up with four possible locations, one being Queen's gardens, infront of the colourful water fountain. We chose this, as the colours and lighting in the area would give a very warm, exciting and generally positive feeling to the scene, again emphasizing the romance of the atmosphere.
The next place was Hessle Foreshore, as we thought that the surroundings of the small beach, the sea and the rocks would look like a stereotypical romantic film, as the couple meet on a beach, or share a passionate moment there together. However, we then decided against this idea, as it would be too far out for us to get to, and if the shots didn't go to plan, we would have to keep re-visiting the location to get it right, which would take up valuable filming time for other scenes.
The third location that we chose, was the docks near Princess Quay, and chose to film on the bridge nearby, as the view of the boats on the water would give a romantic appeal to the audience. We then decided to go against this idea, as we thought that we may not get permission to film there, and that the bridge may make too much noise or be awkward to film on.
Our final location choice was on Hull Marina, a favourite of ours, as we thought that the small bright lights near the water's edge as the characters walked up to see the view of the town from a distance, displaying various lights and buildings, would be a very warm, romantic place to film, which would make an effective impact on the audience, appealing to their emotions. This also reminded us of the film 'Sleepless In Seattle, as the opening scenes and end scene involves similar surroundings, as the genre is also love and romance.
